Thanksgiving in general

Thanksgivingsday, celebrated every year, in Canada and the USA, is a harvest festival. It is a time characterized with lot of fun, gifting, family feasting, praying etc. In Grenada, where they celebrate Thanksgiving too, it is a national celebrationsday on 25 October.

Thanksgiving is most celebrated in the USA and Canada. It is a time to thank not only God for a  good harvest, but also your fellow for their continuous support and care.

Parades, fetes and fairs, eating at restaurants and shopping are an part of the celebration. Football game is closely linked with thanksgiving celebration in America. Football matches are organised every year. Thanksgiving weekend is also the official beginning of the Christmas season in America.

It is also celebrated in parts of Asia, Africa under different names. The theme behind all the celebrations is uniform- being grateful to God and your fellow men. 
 

Thanksgiving s only celebrated in the United States and Canada, but in the Netherlands we have a similar day. Mainly the protestant Christians celebrate it.It is called Dankdag voor Gewas en Arbeid. There is also a day for praying for the harveset, the Biddag.

Those two days are not celebrated like Thanksgivingsday, but more praying and thanking.

Black Friday

Black Friday is the beginning of a traditional shopping season. This friday is set on the first friday after Thanksgiving.
